Construction of an Unshed takes 2-3 months depending on the model, and up to 1 month to design. In the 2-3 months of construction, we lay the foundation, frame, insulate, add roofing, siding, electrical, cabinetry, and everything else to get your unit ready. However, if your city requires permitting that can greatly vary build time so be sure to check your local zoning codes for ADU requirements.

An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a smaller, independent residential dwelling unit located on the same lot as a stand-alone single-family home. Detached units can be built without a permit in most cities, but be sure to check your local zoning codes to find out if permitting or more is required. ADUs are subject to normal building code requirements and Unshed units meet all building code standards. For more information about requirements in your city, simply search “(your city) ADUs”.

Almost everything about an Unshed unit is customizable. Layout, flooring, exterior, cabinetry, windows, utilities, and everything else. If you want your windows to face your favorite view, we’ll do it. If you want tile or carpet instead of hardwood, we’ll do it. During your Unshed building process we’ll work with you to make sure you get everything made just the way you want it.
